Crispy Baked Kale Chips

Crispy Baked Kale Chips

No ratings yet
Crispy Baked Kale Chips use fully dried kale leaves, a light coating of olive oil, and low-temperature baking at 275°F to create crunchy, non-greasy chips. Spacing the leaves in a single layer allows air circulation for even moisture evaporation and perfectly crisp edges without charring.

Ingredients

  • 1 large bunch kale leaves curly or lacinato, central stems removed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder optional
  • 0.5 teaspoon smoked paprika optional
  • red chili flakes optional, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese optional
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice optional

Equipment

  • Salad spinner To dry kale leaves thoroughly
  • Baking sheet To bake kale chips in a single layer
  • Parchment paper To line baking sheet and prevent sticking
  • Wire rack To cool chips after baking for extra crisping

Method

  1. Rinse kale leaves under cold water. Use a salad spinner to dry completely, then pat dry with a kitchen towel for 3-5 minutes to remove all moisture.

  2. Remove thick central stems from each kale leaf and tear the leaves into 2-3 inch chip-sized pieces. Discard stems or save for smoothies.

  4. Spread kale pieces in a single layer on parchment-lined baking sheets, leaving about 1 inch between pieces to allow air circulation and prevent steaming.

  5. Bake at 275°F for 20-25 minutes, flipping all pieces halfway through at about 12 minutes. Remove when edges are browned and leaves feel papery dry.

Notes

  • Always use completely dry kale to prevent soggy chips.
  • Leave space between leaves on baking sheet to allow moisture to evaporate evenly.
  • Cool chips on wire rack after baking to ensure maximum crispness.
