Cheese and Walnut Spread served on a plate

Cheese and Walnut Spread

No ratings yet
Cheese and walnut spread combines softened cream cheese with toasted walnuts, garlic, and lemon juice for a creamy yet chunky texture. Toasting the nuts enhances their flavor, and pulsing in a food processor controls the perfect spreadable consistency. This no-cook appetizer is quick to prepare and works well with crackers, vegetables, or toast.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese softened to room temperature
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil add gradually while mixing
  • 1 cup walnuts toasted until golden
  • 2 cloves garlic minced finely
  • 2 tablespoon fresh parsley or thyme chopped finely
  • 2 teaspoon lemon juice fresh, added 1 teaspoon at a time
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon honey optional, drizzle at end

Equipment

  • Oven To toast the walnuts at 350°F
  • Food processor To pulse the walnuts and mix ingredients
  • Sheet pan Used to spread walnuts for toasting

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Spread walnuts in a single layer on a sheet pan. Toast for 5 minutes, stirring at the 3-minute mark, until golden and fragrant.
    1 cup walnuts
  2. Let toasted walnuts cool for 2 minutes. Chop into small pieces by hand or pulse in a food processor about 5 times to achieve chunky texture.
    1 cup walnuts
  3. Beat softened cream cheese with minced garlic and chopped fresh parsley or thyme until combined, about 30 seconds.
8 oz cream cheese, 2 cloves garlic, 2 tbsp fresh parsley or thyme
  4. Stir chopped walnuts into cream cheese base. Add salt, pepper, lemon juice (1 teaspoon at a time), and olive oil gradually, tasting between additions. Add honey last if using, stirring just until swirled through.
1 cup walnuts, 0.5 tsp salt, 0.25 tsp black pepper, 2 tsp lemon juice, 2 tbsp olive oil, 1 tsp honey
  5. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate spread for 30 minutes to firm up and meld flavors before serving.

Notes

  • Use room temperature cream cheese to avoid lumps and ensure smooth blending.
  • Toast walnuts just until fragrant, stirring halfway through to prevent burning.
  • Add lemon juice gradually to avoid making the spread runny and preserve bright flavor.
