Blue Cheese Dip with Sour Cream served on a plate

Blue Cheese Dip with Sour Cream

No ratings yet
This blue cheese dip blends crumbled blue cheese with sour cream and mayonnaise for a creamy, tangy appetizer. Crumbling the cheese finely and chilling the dip for 1-2 hours allows the flavors to meld and the texture to thicken without becoming watery. Perfect for serving with buffalo wings, vegetables, or chips.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sour cream full-fat
  • 0.5 cup mayonnaise
  • 4 oz blue cheese crumbled into 3-5mm pieces
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives or parsley fold in before serving
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.125 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce optional
  • 1-2 tablespoon milk or buttermilk optional, add 1 tablespoon at a time if needed to thin

Method

  1. Whisk sour cream and mayonnaise in a mixing bowl until smooth with no streaks, about 30 seconds of vigorous whisking.
1 cup sour cream, 0.5 cup mayonnaise
  2. Stir in minced garlic, lemon juice, salt, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce (if using) until evenly distributed. Taste and adjust salt or lemon juice if needed.
1 clove garlic, 1 tbsp lemon juice, 0.25 tsp salt, 0.125 tsp black pepper, 0.5 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  3. Crumble blue cheese into 3-5mm pieces directly into the bowl, then fold gently with a spoon to combine. Avoid overmixing to prevent the cheese from breaking down too much.
    4 oz blue cheese
  4. If the dip is too thick, stir in milk or buttermilk 1 tablespoon at a time until it reaches desired spreadable texture. Stop adding when the dip still holds its shape.
    1-2 tbsp milk or buttermilk
  5. Cover bowl tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1-2 hours. Stir once before serving and fold in fresh chives or parsley if using.
1 tbsp fresh chives or parsley

Notes

  • Crumble blue cheese into 3-5mm pieces for balanced texture in every bite.
  • Chill dip for at least 1 hour to mellow sharpness and thicken texture.
  • Add milk or buttermilk gradually, one tablespoon at a time, to avoid thinning the dip too much.
