  • 1-2 tablespoons neutral cooking oil avocado, canola, or vegetable oil
  • to taste salt to immediately season after cooking

  • optional spices such as paprika, garlic powder, cayenne, or black pepper to taste
  • optional fresh herbs parsley or rosemary to sprinkle over fries
  • optional dips ketchup, aioli, or chipotle mayo for serving

Equipment

  • Air fryer Used to cook fries evenly and crisply

Method

  1. Preheat the air fryer basket to 375°F (190°C) for 3–5 minutes to promote crisping.
  2. Cut sweet potatoes into uniform sticks about ¼ to ½ inch thick, then pat dry thoroughly to remove surface moisture.
  3. Toss fries with 1–2 tablespoons of neutral oil and optional cornstarch to coat evenly but not saturate.
  4. Place the fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket with space around each piece.
  5. Air fry for 20 minutes at 375°F, shaking the basket halfway through cooking for even crisping.
  6. Remove fries once they develop a golden-brown crust and tender interior, about 18–22 minutes total.
  7. Immediately season with salt and let rest 2–3 minutes for crispness to set before serving.

Notes

Store cooled fries in airtight containers to avoid moisture buildup and sogginess. Reheat in the oven at 400°F (205°C) for 5–7 minutes to restore crispness. Freeze in airtight bags for up to 2 months, separating layers with parchment paper. Shake fries halfway during cooking for best texture. Try dipping with aioli, chipotle mayo, or ketchup for extra flavor.
