Ingredients

  • 2 medium apple diced ¼-inch, Granny Smith or Honeycrisp
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.33 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 cup milk dairy or oat milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar for glaze
  • 2-3 tablespoon milk for glaze, add gradually for desired thickness
  • oil spray to grease air fryer basket and spray fritters

Equipment

  • Air fryer Used to cook fritters quickly with crisp texture
  • Mixing bowls For combining dry and wet ingredients separately
  • Whisk To whisk wet ingredients
  • Fork To gently stir batter
  • Paper towels To thoroughly dry diced apples before mixing
  • Wire rack To cool fritters before glazing

Method

  1. Preheat air fryer to 350°F for 3 to 5 minutes. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with oil. Dice apples into ¼-inch pieces and pat completely dry with paper towels.
    2 medium apple, oil spray
  2. In a medium bowl, mix all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and ground cinnamon together.
1.5 cups all-purpose flour, 0.33 cup granulated sugar, 2 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, egg, and vanilla extract until combined.
0.5 cup milk, 1 large egg, 1 tsp vanilla extract
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir gently with a fork until just combined. Some lumps are fine; avoid overmixing to prevent dense fritters.
  5. Fold in diced apples gently until coated. Scoop ¼ cup portions of batter onto parchment circles or directly into the greased air fryer basket, leaving 1 inch between each. Flatten slightly to about ½-inch thick rounds. Spray tops lightly with oil.
    2 medium apple, oil spray
  6. Air fry for 10 to 12 minutes until edges are golden brown and center feels firm to touch. Check at 8 minutes; if browning too fast, reduce temperature to 325°F. Remove and let cool on wire rack for 5 minutes before glazing.
  7. While fritters cool, whisk powdered sugar with 2 tablespoons milk until smooth and pourable. Add more milk teaspoon by teaspoon if needed. Drizzle or dip warm fritters in glaze. Let set 2 to 3 minutes before serving.
1 cup powdered sugar, 2-3 tbsp milk

Notes

  • Pat diced apples completely dry to prevent soggy batter.
  • Stir batter only until just combined to avoid dense fritters.
  • Let fritters cool on a wire rack before glazing to ensure glaze sets properly.
