Ingredients

  • 1 cup Greek Yogurt Use 1:1 ratio, thinner and more tart
  • ¾ cup Cream Cheese Use ¾ cup per 1 cup labneh, milder and sweeter
  • 1 cup Sour Cream Use 1:1 ratio, loose texture with sharper tang
  • ¾ cup Mascarpone Use ¾ cup per 1 cup labneh, sweeter with no tang
  • 1 cup Cottage Cheese Blend smooth, milder and grainy
  • 1 cup Ricotta Cheese Drain overnight to thicken and reduce sweetness
  • 1 cup Hung Curd Use 1:1 ratio, nearly identical to labneh

Equipment

  • Strainer or cheesecloth For draining yogurt or ricotta when needed
  • Blender or food processor For blending cottage cheese smooth

Method

  1. Use Greek yogurt in dips, spreads, or breakfast bowls with a 1:1 substitution ratio. Note it is thinner and more tart than labneh.
  2. Use cream cheese as a milder, sweeter substitute, best for spreads, frosting, or rich dips with a ¾ cup ratio per 1 cup labneh.
  3. Use sour cream in dolloping or sauces with a 1:1 ratio; keeps sharp tang but has a looser texture not suitable for thick spreads.
  4. Use mascarpone in desserts or rich savory dishes where no tang is desired; ¾ cup mascarpone per 1 cup labneh.
  5. Blend cottage cheese until smooth for protein-rich dips or breakfast bowls; use 1 cup blended per 1 cup labneh.
  6. Drain ricotta cheese in cheesecloth for 4 hours to thicken; use 1 cup drained for every 1 cup labneh, suitable for layered dishes and mild spreads.
  7. Use hung curd as a nearly identical substitute to labneh with a 1:1 ratio, suitable for most savory dishes, especially in Indian cuisine.

Notes

Drain Greek yogurt well to prevent watery dips and achieve proper thickness when substituting labneh cheese.
