Ingredients

  • 1 1 Walnut Oil Use equal amounts. Earthier and slightly bitter. Best for both finishing and cooking at low to medium heat. Avoid high-heat searing.
  • 1 1 Almond Oil Use equal amounts. Milder and sweeter. Suitable for both finishing and cooking at medium heat. Won't brown as deeply as hazelnut oil.
  • 1 1 Macadamia Oil Use equal amounts. Buttery and rich. Ideal for cooking at low to medium heat; avoid high-heat frying.
  • 1 1 Avocado Oil Use equal amounts. Neutral with high smoke point (520°F). Best for high-heat frying, roasting, and baking without distinct nutty flavor.
  • 1 1 Light Olive Oil Use equal amounts. Fruity, less nutty. Good for sautéing and mild dressings. Avoid extra virgin type due to strong peppery flavor.
  • 1 1 Pumpkin Seed Oil Use equal amounts but start with half for tasting. Intense nutty flavor and low smoke point; best used as finishing drizzle only.
  • 0.5 1 Light Sesame Oil Use half the amount. Toasty and aromatic. Suitable for light sautéing; too much can overpower the dish.

Method

  1. Select your substitute based on cooking method: choose walnut or macadamia oil for finishing, avocado or light olive oil for high-heat cooking.
  2. Prepare the substitute as needed, such as storing walnut oil in the fridge to prevent rancidity or adding herbs to avocado oil to enhance flavor.
  3. Apply substitute using the recommended 1:1 ratio except light sesame oil which should be used at half the amount; adjust based on taste.
  4. Taste the dish after adding the substitute and adjust seasoning or quantity to achieve desired flavor and consistency.

Notes

Add substitutes slowly and taste-test to avoid overpowering the dish or unbalanced flavors.
