Ingredients

  • 1 to 1 Coconut Milk Strain to thicken for best texture
  • 1 to 1 Heavy Cream Use straight, less coconut flavor
  • 1 to 1 Silken Tofu Blend fully until smooth, neutral flavor
  • 1 to 1 Cashew Cream Soak and blend soaked cashews, mild nutty note
  • 1 to 1 Greek Yogurt Use cold and temper to avoid curdling
  • 1 to 1 Evaporated Milk Use straight with slight caramel tone
  • Almond Milk Mix Combine ¾ cup almond milk with ¼ cup melted coconut oil; whisk or blend to emulsify

Method

  1. Choose the substitute based on your dish's needs: cooking, baking, or whipping for structure.
  2. For Coconut Milk, chill the can overnight then scoop the thick top layer or simmer for 10 minutes to reduce water content.
  3. Use Heavy Cream directly from the carton for richness without coconut flavor; suitable for cooking and whipping.
  4. Blend Silken Tofu with a splash of water or plant milk until completely smooth; use in cold dishes or add at the end of cooking.
  5. Prepare Cashew Cream by soaking raw cashews for 4 hours, draining, and blending with water until thick. Use in sweet or savory dishes.
  6. Use full-fat Greek Yogurt cold to thicken dips and sauces; temper before warming to prevent curdling.
  7. Use Evaporated Milk straight from the can for baking; adds richness and holds up to heat well.
  8. For Almond Milk Mix, whisk ¾ cup unsweetened almond milk with ¼ cup melted coconut oil; let sit 5 minutes to emulsify or blend for 30 seconds.
  9. Adjust ratios as 1:1 substitute except Almond Milk Mix which requires mixing separate ingredients, and reduce liquids by 2 tablespoons if baking with coconut milk.
  10. Taste and check consistency after incorporating the substitute, adjusting as needed for thickness and flavor balance.

Notes

Drain coconut milk before use to avoid watery sauces when substituting for coconut cream.
