Ingredients

  • 0.75 cup Heavy Cream Mix with ¼ cup melted butter per 1 cup clotted cream for richness and spreadability
  • 0.25 cup Butter Melted, mixed with ¾ cup heavy cream per 1 cup clotted cream
  • 1 cup Mascarpone Use 1:1 ratio as substitute; creamier and slightly sweeter, holds shape at room temperature
  • 1 cup Crème Fraîche Use 1:1 ratio as substitute; tangier and thinner, more heat-stable
  • 0.75 cup Greek Yogurt (Full Fat) Use ¾ cup per 1 cup clotted cream; tangier and less rich, drain excess whey if watery
  • 1 cup Double Cream Use 1:1 ratio as substitute; very rich but less dense, pours easily
  • Ricotta & Cream Mix Mix equal parts ricotta and heavy cream; lighter, slightly grainy texture
  • 1 cup Whipped Coconut Cream Use 1:1 ratio; dairy-free substitute with coconut taste, lighter and airier texture

Method

  1. Select your substitute based on the dish type—baking, spreading, topping, or cooking.
  2. For Heavy Cream & Butter, mix ¾ cup heavy cream with ¼ cup melted butter just before use.
  3. Use mascarpone straight from the container for a creamy, slightly sweet substitute at a 1:1 ratio.
  4. Swap crème fraîche 1:1 for a tangier, thinner, and more heat-stable option in cooking or sauces.
  5. Use ¾ cup full-fat Greek yogurt for every 1 cup of clotted cream. Drain whey if watery and fold in gently off heat.
  6. Use double cream 1:1 as a rich, smooth substitute but note it pours more easily, so it won't hold firm shapes.
  7. Mix equal parts ricotta and heavy cream to create a lighter, slightly grainy textural substitute. Stir until smooth before use.
  8. Whip solid coconut cream after chilling overnight and use 1:1 for a dairy-free, coconut-flavored alternative.
  9. Adjust any added acidic ingredients when using tangy substitutes like Greek yogurt or crème fraîche to avoid overly sour flavors.
  10. Apply or mix substitutes promptly as some, like heavy cream & butter, separate faster than clotted cream.

Notes

Drain Greek yogurt before use to prevent a watery texture that affects binding and consistency.
