Ingredients

  • 1 cup Dried Currants Swap 1:1 with raisins; soak in warm water 5 minutes for more moisture if needed
  • 1 cup Dried Cranberries Swap 1:1 with raisins; check label for added sugar which may increase sweetness
  • 1 cup Chopped Dates Swap 1:1 with raisins; chop small to distribute evenly and account for added moisture
  • 1 cup Golden Raisins Swap 1:1 with raisins; lighter flavor but similar texture and sweetness
  • Chopped Dried Apricots Use ¾ cup per 1 cup raisins; chop finely for best texture and to avoid

Method

  1. Choose your substitute based on recipe needs: chewiness and sweetness (currants, golden raisins), tartness (cranberries), moisture and richness (dates), or tang and fruitiness (apricots).
  2. For currants, soak in warm water for 5 minutes if more moisture is desired.
  3. Chop dates and dried apricots finely to ensure even distribution and texture consistency.
  4. Apply the substitute using a 1:1 ratio for all except dried apricots, which require ¾ cup per 1 cup raisins.
  5. Adjust liquid in your recipe if using dates or apricots, as they add more moisture than raisins.
  6. Taste and monitor consistency as you cook or bake to ensure the flavor and texture suit your dish.

Notes

  • Chop chopped dried apricots finely to avoid excess moisture and maintain batter consistency in place of raisins.
