5 Best Substitutes for Dream Whip

No ratings yet
Use these five common substitutes based on your recipe's need for airy peaks, creaminess, or vegan options. Heavy cream and coconut cream offer fluffy texture, while tofu and Greek yogurt add dense creaminess. Adjust sweetness and use stabilizers when needed.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Heavy Cream Chill bowl and beaters; add sugar gradually to taste; whip to soft peaks for folding
  • 1 cup Coconut Cream Use full-fat cans chilled at least 12 hours; whip only solid top layer; add powdered sugar for sweetness; add stabilizer for hold
  • 1 cup Non-Dairy Whipped Topping Use equal volume; ready to use; often sweeter than Dream Whip
  • 1 cup Silken Tofu Blend Blend silken tofu smooth with 1–2 tablespoons sweetener and flavoring; dense texture, not airy
  • 1 cup Whipped Greek Yogurt Sweeten with 2 tablespoons powdered sugar and vanilla; strain if watery; serve immediately; dense texture

Method

  1. Choose the substitute based on your dish needs: airy peaks (heavy cream, coconut cream), instant fluff (non-dairy whipped topping), or dense creaminess (silken tofu, Greek yogurt).
  2. For heavy cream, chill bowl and beaters before whipping; add sugar slowly and whip to soft peaks if folding is necessary.
  3. For coconut cream, chill can at least 12 hours; scoop only the solid top layer and whip with powdered sugar; use stabilizers for longer peak hold if desired.
  4. Use non-dairy whipped topping ready as-is in equal volume to Dream Whip for quick and sweet replacement.
  5. Blend silken tofu with sweetener (maple syrup or powdered sugar) and flavorings until smooth; no whipping to peaks, dense texture.
  6. Whisk Greek yogurt with powdered sugar and vanilla; strain if watery; serve immediately to maintain texture; best for tangy, dense toppings or fillings.
  7. Adjust sweetness by taste for all substitutes as needed since Dream Whip usually contains sugar.
  8. Use stabilizers like cornstarch or gelatin with heavy or coconut cream to help hold peaks longer when needed.

Notes

Chill coconut cream before whipping to avoid watery texture and weak peaks.
