  • DIY Radish Blend (White Radish & Jicama) Mix 2 parts white radish to 1 part jicama by weight;

Method

  1. Choose the substitute based on your dish: use jicama or water radish for raw, kohlrabi or turnip for cooked, or the DIY radish blend for both.
  2. Peel and prepare the substitute as instructed—slice, julienne, or cube per recipe requirements.
  3. Measure and use substitutes according to the recommended 1:1 ratio by weight or volume; for the DIY blend, mix 2 parts white radish with 1 part jicama.
  4. In cooked dishes, add turnip early to allow sharpness to mellow; for raw dishes, adjust seasoning with vinegar or pepper to fine-tune flavor.
  5. Taste your dish and adjust texture and spice as needed to mimic daikon’s mild heat and crunch.

Notes

  • Peeling is important for all substitutes to remove tough skins.
  • Adjust seasoning especially for substitutes milder or sharper than daikon to balance the flavor.
  • The DIY blend is great when you want both the peppery heat and crisp sweetness found in daikon.
