  • 1 teaspoon Instant Coffee Powder Mix with 1 tablespoon hot water to replace 1 tablespoon extract
  • 1 tablespoon Coffee Liqueur Use 1:1 ratio, adds alcohol and sweetness

  • 0.125 teaspoon Ground Coffee Combine with 1 teaspoon vanilla extract; use finely ground for mild coffee hint

Method

  1. Choose a substitute based on your recipe's need for liquid and flavor intensity.
  2. For brewed coffee, use 2 tablespoon per 1 tablespoon coffee extract and reduce other liquid ingredients accordingly.
  3. For instant coffee, dissolve 1 teaspoon powder in 1 tablespoon hot water; adjust amount gradually to avoid bitterness.
  4. For coffee liqueur, use a 1:1 replacement; note it adds sweetness and alcohol that may bake off or linger depending on recipe.
  5. For chocolate molasses mix, combine 1 tablespoon melted dark chocolate with 1 teaspoon molasses and stir into batter or frosting while warm.
  6. For vanilla and coffee, mix 1 teaspoon vanilla extract with ⅛ teaspoon finely ground coffee and add to wet ingredients for a subtle coffee hint.
  7. Taste and check consistency after adding your chosen substitute to ensure proper balance and flavor.

Notes

Add brewed coffee slowly and adjust liquids to avoid thinning batter or frosting.
