Ingredients

  • 0.25 teaspoon Celery Seed + Salt Mix ¼ teaspoon celery seed with ¾ teaspoon table salt for each teaspoon of celery
  • 1 part Celery Seed Powder Mix 1 part celery seed powder with 3 parts fine salt;
  • 1 teaspoon Dill Salt Use 1:1 ratio in place of celery salt, note the different herbal flavor
  • 1 tablespoon Kosher Salt + Celery Flakes Mix 1 tablespoon kosher salt with 1 teaspoon crushed celery flakes per tablespoon of celery
  • 1 teaspoon Sea Salt Use sea salt 1:1 as a pure salt substitute, no celery flavor

Method

  1. Choose your substitute based on recipe type: raw (cocktails, dressings), cooked (roasts, marinades), or simple seasoning.
  2. If using celery seed, mix with salt in the recommended ratios; grind the mixture finer for cocktail rims or dressings.
  3. For DIY celery salt, grind celery seeds into a powder before combining with salt to ensure a uniform texture.
  4. Adjust the amount of substitute to equal the amount of celery salt called for, and incorporate it into your dish or rim.
  5. Taste and check the texture of the substitute in your recipe, grinding further if needed for smoothness and better adherence.

Notes

  • The celery seed + salt blend is the closest flavor match but can be grainy unless finely ground.
  • DIY celery salt offers the freshest aroma and best texture but requires grinding equipment.
  • Sea salt and dill salt lack celery flavor but provide seasoning when celery taste is not primary.
